Vick Center Closure and Reduced Services
The Vick Advising Excellence Center will be concluding operations on May 1, 2026, per a recent university decision. Between now and May 1, appointment availability and services will be significantly reduced.
Students looking to discuss their internal transfer plans are encouraged to begin working with their current advising office and/or the advising office of the school/major they are interested in. For the time being, students can also refer to our Major Exploration Resources page and our Guide to Internal Transfer Canvas course for guidance.
Students with general Core Curriculum questions should start by talking to the advising office in their college or school. For complex Core Curriculum questions, including questions about core petitions, students should email core.audit@austin.utexas.edu for assistance.
Vick Center advisors assist students from all colleges and schools with matters related to major exploration, internal transfer planning, and Core Curriculum advising. While the Vick Center advisors serve students in transition between majors, students must see an advisor in their current college for processes like clearing a registration hold, Q-dropping, withdrawing, changing a class to pass/fail, etc.
If you are an incoming student, you must attend your orientation session with your admitted college/school and register for classes before you can schedule with our office.
Please see our advising services and schedule a 30-minute advising appointment below.
Please note, if you have questions about course scheduling and do not intend to switch your major, or are looking to clear a registration hold, q-drop a class, withdraw, or change a class to pass/fail, you must meet with the advising office within your college/school. Information on how to find your college/school advisor is available through Texas One Stop.
Vick Center advisors can meet with students to discuss the following topics:
Major Exploration
- Explore your interests, discover your strengths, and review possible academic paths at UT.
- Learn about additional resources to help you make an informed decision, including Wayfinder and online career resources.
Schedule a Major Exploration Appointment
You are strongly encouraged to enroll in our Guide to Internal Transfer Canvas course or, at minimum, review our Major Exploration Resources page prior to meeting with one of our advisors for a major exploration appointment. This will help give you a head start and will allow us to maximize your time when meeting with us.
Internal Transfer Planning
- Discuss the internal transfer process and make a plan that accounts for different possible outcomes.
- Review internal transfer requirements, including required courses you might need to take in a future semester. Review what it takes to be a competitive applicant for internal transfer.
We encourage you to enroll in our Guide to Internal Transfer Canvas course, which includes detailed information about the internal transfer process, major exploration resources, tips for the internal transfer application's resume and personal statement components, and more. Please contact your current college or school's career center for individualized support with your resume and personal statement.
